Christian Ashrams in Indiaby Michael O’Toole, Ishvani Kendra, Indore, India, 1983, 138 pp. (A German edition, translated by Erika Gibello, is published by Verlag der Arbeits Gemeinschaft für Religions und Weltanschauungsfragen, 1983, 101 pp.) Both of these books are handy pocket guides for those traveling to India and touring the ashram scene. Organized according to geographic areas, O’Toole’s book describes various Christian ashrams using categories such as vision, routine, activities, rules, accommodations, and cost. A list of »helpful names« is also included as resource people to contact should the need arise. Gibello’s translated version serves much the same function, citing various Christian ashrams sponsored by both independent and denominational workers from India and the West.
